Melbourne City Ballet’s Artistic Director, Michael Pappalardo and Artistic Associate Brendan Bradshaw pay homage to Lewis Carroll’s classic novel, Alice in Wonderland, with this enchanting ballet, complimented by one of Tchaikovsky’s most famous scores.
The curious adventure begins when Alice follows a waistcoat wearing White Rabbit down a hole and into a world of wonder.
Floating in her own tears, after being trapped in a room of doors, her quest to follow the White Rabbit leads her to the intriguing Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, who recount the tale of ‘The Walrus and the Carpenter’, the fanciful Caterpillar, the grinning Cheshire Cat, the tea drinking and equally mad Hatter and March Hare and the sleepy Dormouse. She attends an ‘unbirthday’ party and is thrown into a croquet match with the Queen of Hearts, where she befriends the Knave, after which she awakens in time to go home for tea.
